Walking around Madrid we stumbled upon this place on a Sunday afternoon. We had tacos, chicharrones, and a quesadilla. All top notch! The staff is great.

Comida estupenda y el servicio igual. Un gran sitio para comer o cenar.
We’re a market stall, not a restaurant with numbered tables. That means three things, and you’d better know them before you come:
No bookings. First come, first served, like any market bar. At midday on weekdays it moves fast: people eat and make room.
We open during the day. We keep the Mercat’s hours, so this is a lunch plan, not a dinner one. On Sundays the market closes, and so do we.
The menu is short on purpose. Fifteen things. The ones that work with what’s in the market that week.
Looking for dinner, a booked table or a big group? That’s at our other venue, in Santa Catalina
Tacos are sold one at a time, which is the whole point: order one of each and you don’t have to commit to any of them. Lamb al pastor, carne asada, chicken with mole, tempura prawn. And the Special of the Week, made from whatever good arrived at the market that morning.
If you’re hungrier, the Angus brisket quesabirria and the carne asada burrito will see you through a whole meal.
The taco that only exists here Lamb al pastor. Lamb from Mallorca, with pineapple chutney. We don’t have it in Madrid or in Santa Catalina: it was born here, inside the market, with produce from the island.
The Mercat de l’Olivar has been open since 1951 and it’s where half of Palma does its shopping. We don’t have to go looking for ingredients: they’re two metres away, on the stalls next door.
That’s why the menu is short and why there’s a taco that changes every week. It isn’t a marketing line: the fish, vegetables and meat that come through that door decide what comes off the grill.
It’s the most honest version of Primo. The same cooking, without the tablecloth.
At the Mercat de l’Olivar, Plaça de l’Olivar, 07002 Palma (Balearic Islands). We’re inside the market.
Monday to Saturday, 12:00 to 16:00. We close on Sundays, like the market.
No. Olivar is a market stall and it’s first come, first served, so we don’t take bookings: just come by during market hours. If you want a booked table, head to Primo Palma, in Santa Catalina.
Tacos range from €9.50 (two) to €15 (three duck or swordfish). Margaritas start at €10.50. A full meal with a drink comes to around €25–35 per person.
Yes: vegetarian taco, vegetarian quesadilla, elotes, confit artichokes and guacamole, among others. They’re marked on the menu.
As a market stall, we don’t take group bookings. If there are more than eight of you, your best bet is Primo Palma (Calle Fàbrica, 29), which has tables and group menus: book them here.
Mexican street food with a Californian influence: tacos, quesadillas, burritos and antojitos to share, plus a signature cocktail bar, tequilas and mezcals.
